Fertilization modifies forest stand growth but not stand density: consequences for modelling stand dynamics in a changing climate

چکیده

Abstract Knowledge of the maximum forest stand density and self-thinning process is important for understanding, modelling scheduling thinnings in silviculture. The upper trajectories stem number, N, vs mean diameter, dq or tree volume number are often used quantifying density. long debate about how site conditions modify these relationships presently revived due to global change. A crucial question whether environmental alter themselves just velocity at which stands move along them. Our contribution based on fully stocked plots from long-term Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) fertilization experiments an ecological gradient South Germany. This allows us compare fertilized unfertilized under different conditions. We can show that repeated with nitrogen did not change N ~ trajectories. Assuming affects forests a similar way as ongoing atmospheric N-deposition, this means growth, mortality, accumulation proceed faster time but still follow same allometric Furthermore, we found level line generally increases annual precipitation. exponent, however, respond Finally, quantitatively demonstrate discuss implications consequences results regarding understanding dynamics, carbon sequestration development adaptation silvicultural guidelines view climate

Stochastic Forest Stand Value

The paper uses both the single rotation and ongoing rotation framework to study the impact of yield tax, lump-sum tax, cash flow tax and tax on interest rate earnings on the privately optimal rotation period when forest value growth is stochastic and forest owners are either risk neutral or risk averse. In the case of risk-neutral forest owner higher yield tax raises the optimal harvesting thre...

Forest Growth Simulation: Tropical Rain Forest Stand Table Projection

The study on the tree growth for four species groups of commercial timber in Koh Kong province, Cambodia’s tropical rainforest is described. The simulation for these four groups had been successfully developed in the 5-year interval through year-60. Data were obtained from twenty permanent sample plots in the duration of thirteen years. The aim for this study was to develop stand table simulati...

Complex forest stand structures: management, measurement and modelling

A consequence of popular demands for production forestry based on complex stands characterized by vertical, horizontal and spatial heterogeneity is that the estimation and modelling of temporal dynamics and production potential becomes more challenging. New technologies may make it expedient to census remotely and simulate the growth of the whole forest, rather than to rely on the extrapolation...

Forest Stand Dynamics and Ecological Factors in Relation to Dwarf

Dwarf mistletoes are markedly host specific, perennial, obligate parasites. The success of mistletoe populations is tied not only to the suitability of the environment, but also to the availability and conditions of the hosts they infect. Thus, the dynamics of forest stand development and change exert major influences on the capacity of dwarf mistletoes to spread, intensify, and cause damage to...
